Have your say on the new Local Plan, including housing and development needs

You can now comment on Sevenoaks District Council’s draft Local Plan, which includes proposals to meet the District’s future housing and development needs.

Sevenoaks District Council is working on ‘Plan 2040’, a new Local Plan, which sets out what can be built and where over the next 15 years.

Plan 2040 will help to deliver much needed new homes, including affordable homes, while promoting residents’ health and wellbeing and protecting the environment, including the overwhelming majority of the Green Belt.

While Plan 2040 proposes to make the best use of land within existing built up areas, the Council faces a big challenge as the Government has told the Council the District needs 10,680 new homes from 2025 to 2040.

As the Sevenoaks District is 93% Green Belt, the third highest proportion in England, the Council has to consider a limited number of Green Belt sites to meet the District’s future housing and development needs.

The sites under consideration are in the most suitable locations, close to existing settlements, transport and services. Some are on poorly performing Green Belt, such as land that may already have been built on.

Local people can comment on Plan 2040 from Thursday 23 November 2023 until midnight on Thursday 11 January 2024 at www.sevenoaks.gov.uk/plan2040. The site includes information, Plan 2040 Summary leaflet and consultation video.  You can also view Plan 2040 at local libraries, town or parish council offices and Sevenoaks District Council’s offices.

Gatwick Consultation – deadline for your comments extended to 19th November 2023

Due to the premature closure of the Gatwick consultation, the Planning Inspectorate has now extended the period for submitting your views until 23:59 on Sunday 19th November 2023. Please see the message below from the Planning Inspectorate on how to do this:

As you will be aware, due to a technical fault with the Planning Inspectorate’s online Relevant Representation form, users were not able to make submissions on the final day of the representation period. The fault has now been resolved, and we apologise for any inconvenience this caused.

As a result of the premature closure, the Applicant has extended the period for submission of Relevant Representations until 23:59 on Sunday 19 November 2023. You can submit a representation and register as an Interested Party by navigating to the project webpage of the National Infrastructure Planning website: https://infrastructure.planninginspectorate.gov.uk/projects/south-east/gatwick-airport-northern-runway/.

If you previously submitted a representation via email due to the website fault, you will need to resubmit this via the online form by the above deadline in order for it to be valid.

If you have already submitted a representation via the form, please do not resubmit it unless we have contacted you directly about your submission.

If you are unable to complete a registration form online and would like to register your interest, please call the helpline on: 0303 444 5000 to request a paper form. Please note the deadline above for receipt of the completed form by the Planning Inspectorate. For further advice please see Advice Note 8.2: How to register to participate in an Examination. You can also check our step by step guide to find out more about having your say about a national infrastructure project.

Consultation deadline is approaching for Gatwick- Have your say

The deadline for you to register and make initial comment on the Gatwick Consultation is 29th October 2023. Please sign up o have your say: The link to the registration page is here

Gatwick have proposed to replace the standby runway with a full second runway. If this happens capacity at Gatwick will be as busy as Heathrow. This will have a huge impact on the area.

As a Parish Council we are concerned the impact this will have on the area we live in and have objected to the application and the significant damage and impact it will have on the Parish and beyond. There are great concerns regarding noise and pollutants, on HPC residents and on the AONB environment around us, in addition to the potential impact on housing, employment and infrastructure as well as the wider environmental considerations.

We urge you to register and make comment. You can do this anytime from now up until 29th October 2023. The link to the registration page is here

At the time of registering, you must include your initial comments on the proposal. These must be about what you consider to be the main issues and impacts and include anything that may affect your day-to-day life. Once registered you are then able to submit further comments.  The GAAC website has some useful information regarding wording. Please visit https://www.gacc.org.uk/gacc-responses-and-briefings.php

School Bus Survey

Tom Tugendhat, MP, has opened his annual School Bus Survey . If you have children who get the bus to school, or know of someone who does, please do complete the survey.  The link to the survey is here.

Already there has been hundreds of responses and Tom is speaking to bus operators, schools and Kent County Council (KCC) to resolve the issues from the survey responses so far. Overcrowding is an issue on many routes and I know some routes have had timings changed due to delays. He is also keen to hear from anyone who has had trouble getting the Kent Travel Saver delivered from KCC.

Edenbridge Memorial Health Centre

There is a meeting tomorrow, Saturday 7th October, to hear about the services that will be on offer at the new Edenbridge Memorial Health Centre. To attend you need to book a place via the QR code or the number on the advert, or visit their website for more information on the new Centre.

Call for Community Transport Service

Would you be interested in a Community Transport Service for local villages that are without a bus service? District Councillor James Barnett is looking to start a community transport service and would love to hear from anyone who would like to get involved. Could you perhaps volunteer some time to drive a Transit sized vehicle, or volunteer some organisational skills to help run the service, or maybe you run a business who might like to sponsor the service?

In the first instance, please contact Councillor Barnett via email:  cllr.barnett@sevenoaks.gov.uk
